Race Should Finish
As I type this, they have finished 291 laps out at RIR. There is a batch of rain that should clip the race track right around midnight with the heaviest showers staying to the north.
Showers Becoming More Isolated
Now that the sun is about to set, the showers are starting to break apart. We will still see isolated showers and thunderstorms for this evening and into tonight. With that said, it's very possible that they could sneak in a full race at RIR...just as long as the showers stay north of the area! All they need is 201 laps to make it official...
Weather Update 2
Isolated strong storms persist across the area. Downtown Richmond is about to get hit by a thunderstorm. This will also hit RIR, so race fans take cover! The threat for hit-and-miss showers and thunderstorms will continue through at least 10 PM this evening.
Update On Severe Potential
Although clouds and rain will inhibit the potential for severe storms today, we could still see isolated strong storms that are capable of producing hail or damaging winds. It's too early to tell if they will postpone the race out at RIR (they can dry the track in 45 minutes), but periods of showers and storms will persist into the evening. I'll have another update here shortly!
