Strong Storms Possible Southwest VA

Western Virginia will be favored today for rain and thunderstorms, especially south of I-64 and west of I-85. An upper-level disturbance is headed toward the region this afternoon and may aid in the intensification of storms. Widespread cloud-cover may inhibit destabilization of the atmosphere, but it should still be humid and warm enough for storms.

Some of the storms that develop could become severe with damaging straight-line winds and potentially some hail around quarter size. There may be a watch issued for part of our area, so we'll let you know if that's the case. Stay with CBS6, we'll keep you ahead of the storm!

A Couple Rain Facts

June 28th was the last time we've seen a good shower in the area (0.43" was officially recorded at the airport). The last time we've seen over a half inch of rain was on May 17th!
