Ok, here is the very latest on what I'm expecting. I'll address the three keys to the forecast again.
1) Temperatures reached the low 60s again today, to the ground is nice and toasty
2) I'm expecting air temperatures to stay in the mid 30s while the snow passes the area early tomorrow morning
3) The track of the storm hasn't changed much. The brunt of the storm should remain off the coast.
With all that said, some snow can still stick on things detached from the ground...for instance your back deck, grassy surfaces or rooftops. It will be slightly colder to the north and west of the metro, where isolated areas could pick up a quick 2" or less. Again, a lot of this will melt as well.

Southside Virginia could use a good snow. A slow melting snow not only offers excellent moisture deep into the ground but snow also provides an insulation that prevents soil temperatures from constantly fluctuating between freezing and thawing. The reason this matters is because these changes cause the water in the soil to expand and contract. Roots can be damaged, even tossed out of the soil. The same goes for all those fall-planted bulbs. Something else that happens when it snows is that nitrogen is deposited by the snow and even when the soil is frozen, its eventual thaw can result in the absorption of nitrogen.
So I say let it snow, let it snow. Plus I would love a day off from school.

Excellent insight, thanks for the comment!
I have to admit, although I do not like the cold, it's fun watching snow fall from the sky. In addition, it's always better than ice!
