Strong to Severe Storms Possible Thursday
As an upper-level disturbance tracks over the region today, scattered strong to potentially severe thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening in central Virginia. These storms could be similar to recent severe weather events, with damaging straight-line winds, torrential rainfall, and nearly constant lightning. The air mass in the Commonwealth is very moist with dew point temperatures greater than 70 degrees. When this moisture is combined with afternoon heating into the upper 80s and low 90s, conditions will be ripe for scattered storm development.
